Ethical Charter

The member radio and television networks and institutions of the Union accept this media Ethical Charter as the guiding principles for their work and for the purpose of achieving their common mission and goals. The Charter will serve as the basis for the evaluation of their media activities.

  1. Protect the honor, values and professional ethics such as seriousness, to be normative and professional, independence, courage, reflect the truth, honesty, fairness, observing impartiality and diversity.
  2. Treat the audience with transparency and respect and pay deserved attention to different events and issues with a view to presenting a real and clear picture of them, free from overstatements or understatements.
  3. To have impartial interaction with the news and sources of news and being committed to the binding international treaties and practices in this connection.
  4. Reflect and emphasize the positions and viewpoints of countries, nations, groups, political parties and forces who are subjected to different types of oppression, violations and conspiracies, and defending them in accordance with regional and international treaties and conventions that support the right of defense until full recovery of the rights.
  5. Pay due attention to issues facing the Islamic ummah, protect their heritage and sanctities, and show their strength and perseverance in facing plans of domination, guardianship, occupation and cultural aggressions, and make serious effort to make up points of weakness and to turn them into points of strength with the aim of achieving a special position for the Islamic world in the international community.   
  6. Respect the revealed religions and their followers, to have dialogue and constructive criticisms with other cultures and civilizations, and emphasize on cultural diversity and richness of human society as a human value, free from all forms of racial, ethnic and cultural discrimination, and so on.
  7. Respect human sentiments of individuals and special groups, victims of war, crime, tyranny, events and racial discrimination, the sentiments of their families and the audience of the media, and choose their sentiments over professional news relationships.
  8. Counter efforts of the world arrogant powers towards distortion the truth, combat news boycott and media monopoly, making effort to realize the goal of creating a fair and global media system, and emphasizing on healthy  competition and constructive cooperation while maintaining the level of professional capability.
  9. Pay attention to public sensitivity and refraining from  what harms that feeling, such as broadcasting images of violence, immoral thrills, extortion, abusive and obnoxious words, deceptive and provocative statements, protect children and families from perils, respect privacy of persons and refrain from revealing their secrets or threatening them.
  10.  Refuse to promote the “clash of civilizations and cultures”, and avoiding efforts aimed at sowing hatred, seditiousness and rejection of others.
  11.  Defending Islam as the origin of values, civilization and culture of the ummah against the strong onslaughts by the world domineering powers and their unmanly attacks, emphasizing on the principles of Islamic Sharia as a perfect system for human life, present the true picture of Muslims and their contribution to human civilization establishment, and changing the stereotype image generated by the Western media.
  12. Emphasize on the unity of the entire Muslim ummah, strengthen their spirit of tolerance and brotherhood among them through awareness in messaging process to the public opinion and avoid any action that harms the unity of the ummah.
  13.   Pay attention to the language of Quran as the foundation for Islamic identity and culture, make efforts to promote and use this language with due care and sense of professionalism and with the aim of serving the interests of Islamic ummah and promoting applications of eloquent Arabic language while respecting the local dialect and cultures. This approach does not mean negation of the importance other main languages.
  14. Empower the personality and character of a Muslim individual by consolidating values and fundamentals of faith and ethics, awareness  and familiarize him/her with social, cultural, political, economic, environmental and psychological knowledge, explaining fundamental freedoms, and his/her rights and duties toward family, society, homeland, ummah, sanctities, and respect his/her individual characteristics.
  15. Emphasize on national identity,  consolidation the solidarity among citizens of the nation, commitment to rules of public order, defend rights, full national sovereignty, independence and freedom in the process of decision-making and rule of people will and the right to self-determination.
  16.  Protect social and cultural values and family links in the societies.
  17.  Demonstrate the true status of women in Islamic civilization and culture and making effort to promote their effective participation in all affairs of the society.
  18.  Raise awareness about human rights and labor, women, children and minorities rights, promote regulations relating to public and vocational health, improving individual and social behaviors, optimal utilization of natural and human resources, campaign against illiteracy, backwardness, poverty and inequality of opportunities, making effort to realize social justice, and emphasize on intellectual  and scientific creativity for the purpose of achieving all-encompassing scientific movement in the  world of Islam. 
  19. Admit mistakes when they happen, and try to make up them and prevent their recurrence.
  20.  Commitment toward media freedom and protecting media institutions and colleagues who are at risk of pressure and attacks, and cooperating with national, regional and international media and press syndicates and unions for their defense.
